It’s not every day that you hear about historical moments that happened in Armonk; however, we are lucky enough to have a North Castle Historical Society that has documented such moments.
According to their documents, Thomas Wright owned property and operated a mill in the area during the American Revolution; which we now call Thomas Wright Estates. A plaque designed by historian Doris Finch Watson shows the 1780 Thomas Wright’s mill site buildings as well as the mill wheel and the date 1737, which indicates the first recorded mill reference at the sight. During the revolution, Major Andre worked with the infamous American traitor Benedict Arnold! Major Andre acted as a spy, was captured in Tarrytown, contained in a barn at Thomas Wright’s Mill in North Castle (Armonk) and later hanged in Tappan, NY.
In modern day, the mills are long gone and there are no known spies(!) in the area, only stately homes that grace the Thomas Wright Estate land in Armonk. Two such homes for sale, and spotlighted today, have grand easy living, with one-level layouts. A wonderful floorplan for a buyer who desires one level living.
